What is Català and where is Catalonia?
October 21st, 2007So, if we have already met I may had told you something about me… And maybe I told you that I’m Catalan. Still puzzled about what is Català and where is Catalonia? I’ll try to clarify it a little.
I’m Catalan because I live in Catalonia, a region in Spain. Catalonia it’s not a country, but we have our own language, culture and traditions. If your picture of Spain includes sevillanas, flamenco or bull fighting, you are completely wrong and I’m proud to say that I’m Catalan and not Spanish. Check the Wikipedia to learn more.
About the language, Català (or Catalan in English) is my mother tongue. It is in fact a language spoken by 9 million people in Spain, France and Italy. Actually they say it is a mixture of them, so please don’t try to figure out what is that weird accent of mine… It’s not Spanish (or Castilian as we would say in Spain), nor Mexican, nor French, nor Italian. Note that there are 4 official languages in Spain. Check the Wikipedia to learn more.
