Josep Valls

Since the moment I powered up my first computer when I was not older than 8 years old, I have always been fascinated by these amazing devices. From the very beginning I have kept an eager interest on computer science and I have spent long hours in front of the computer, going one step beyond of the simple desktop computer usage for leisure, amusement or gamming.

I started reading books and studying on my own and I made some attempts at computer graphics, application development and even music composition. In 1997, when I was 13 years old, I won an inter-school province-level contest with an educational child-aimed computer game. Some years later, in 2002 I was awarded a fourth prize on a state-level web design contest.

Although it is said that computer freaks are rather introverted people I have always enjoyed my social life. I have kept myself very busy with leisure activities, languages or sports and I have performed theater for some years. Since 2000 I have been volunteering in a leisure center for children aged 3 to 15 years old on Saturday afternoons and I have also been volunteering in a summer camp for the same children. In 2005 I attended an official and certified 120 hour theoretical course about child care and leisure non-formal education.

I started working part time as a sales clerk in a local computer shop, and I continued a vocational education career while working. The senior programmers became aware of my ability for computer programming, and I was soon promoted to the software development department, where I worked for over 6 years, managing a wide range of tasks which gave me broad experience. From hard-coding thousands of lines of code to designing graceful user interfaces and web pages, from telephone help desk support to close relationship with the customer, performing high responsibility analysis and consulting tasks.

In 2006 I started my university studies and I quit my former job to keep up my professional and personal development. In 2007 I went abroad to the USA. In 2009 I came back to Spain to continue my studies and try my luck as an entrepreneur. In 2010 I graduated with honors in my graduation project. I started a Ms in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision. Now I pursue my professional career as the lead developer of the HR consultancy I cofounded.
